What is Jugglefish? How does it work?
We are two places in one - a gallery and a drop-in art studio! Our concept is to break down the wall between enjoying the art of others and making art of your own. Visit the gallery and then join us in the studio to make your own. We opened in the summer of 2014 and we are looking forward to a third summer of art in Sea Isle City. Choose from our menu of art projects for all ages during our drop-in hours, and special workshops and classes at other times. We add to the schedule often and adjust what we offer based on your interests and what is currently being exhibited in the gallery. Keep checking back to see what is new! Our Facebook page has immediate news of special events.
Do I need a reservation?
No, you may come anytime during our drop-in hours! You may drop-in to do an art project of your choosing, or you may drop-in to view the gallery. Reservations are recommended for our adult evening classes and special workshops, but you are welcome to be spontaneous and join us without a reservation if we have space.
Do you do parties and special events?
Absolutely! Information is on our special events page; or you can call us at 609.478.0063 and have all your questions answered.
Where did we get the name "Jugglefish"?
During a particularly long and bleak winter, my young daughter and I found escape by regularly visiting a large tropical fish exhibit at a nearby university and imagining ourselves floating among the fish in a warm tropical sea. Merely feet away from the unremitting ice and snow outside, there were lionfish and clownfish swimming in temperate water. One day we glimpsed a particularly agile and shy fish among the coral. It could only be the elusive jugglefish! Ichthyologists have yet to confirm the existence of a jugglefish, but that is simply because he is too busy entertaining young sea creatures with his talent for juggling flotsam and jetsam to allow himself to be the subject of scientific study.
Who designed our beautiful logo?
Many thanks to the talented illustrator, Adrienne Wright, for bringing the whimsical Jugglefish to life in our logo! Adi is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators-Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter, and recently won 1st runner up in the Tomie dePaolo illustration contest (see her winning entry here: http://epa.scbwi.org/68-2/) For more information about Adi's work visit her website: http://www.adriennewright.com/
